More than 70 voices from three outstanding choirs of the Region participate this Saturday in 'El Salvador' in the concert 'Canto de Difuntos' (02/11/2017)

The three choirs, accompanied by 17 wind instruments, will perform individually and jointly works of great composers of sacred music and pagan funerary

'Diatessaron', 'Orpheus Music' and 'Coro Arsis', three of the most outstanding choral music ensembles in the Region, will meet on Saturday, November 4, in Caravaca de la Cruz, to star in 'Canto de defuntos' , an action that will transcend the habitual patterns of the classical concert.

The event will take place at 8:30 p.m. in the parish church of El Salvador, with free admission.

In addition to interpreting the greatest composers of sacred choral music, such as Byrd or Bruckner, during this concert, organized with the collaboration of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz and the Conservatory 'Leandro Martínez Romero', the world premiere will take place. 'Xibalbá', a Mayan-inspired work by Murcia composer Jaime Belmonte, who says that "the historical link of the Day of the Dead between the Catholic and pagan rite will be reflected in this concert: music and choir will surround the audience, literally, making this concert not only an extraordinary artistic experience, but a deep spiritual reflection. "

The three choirs participating in the meeting have a long musical career.

In the first part of the concert, each group will play an extraordinary collection of a cappella repertoire separately.

Great names of traditional religious music will be present, such as Palestrina and Byrd, as well as composers of the modern period such as Stravinsky or Naujalis.

In addition, Dowland, an exponent of secular choral music from the Elizabethan era, will be played.

In the second part of the concert, the three groups will join to form a large choral mass of 70 people.

In the first place, the famous Begräbnisgesang (Song of the Dead) by Johannes Brahms will be performed.

After definitively establishing the funerary aesthetics of the concert, the choir will surround the audience and Caravaca will be present at the world premiere of Xibalbá.

Never before has there been in this city the premiere of a musical work of such avant-garde.

It has been composed specifically for this concert, with the established template of 3 choirs and 17 wind instruments.

The work is a mortuary evocation of the Mayan culture.

Their compositional disposition will make the sound come from everywhere, reinforced also by the extreme reverberation of the church.

The public will experience that it is moving and will travel toward sensory states not explored.

The work ends in an impetuous chaos, which will plunge the temple into darkness for a moment.

The most important prayer of Christianity will return the light to the church;

a great Credito in unum Deumde Anton Bruckner will mean the closing of the concert.

One of the objectives of this project is to make the public reflect on the limits of art.

A repertoire of extreme quality will guide the audience through different expressive levels, consummating in the vortex of Xibalbá. The purely sacred ending will be the epitome of the concert.

In short, the listener will be given the chance to enjoy a total artistic experience.
