Members of the educational community of the San Juan de la Cruz High School have met at the Casa de la Cultura 'Emilio Sáez' to participate in the event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the center.
The event was attended by the Secretary of State for Education, Marcial Marín;
the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Moreno, and the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Adela Martínez-Cachá, along with the director of San Juan, Isidro de la Ossa.
Throughout this academic year, the institute will celebrate its half-century of existence with different initiatives, such as a Cultural Week, which will bring together activities such as lectures given by alumni who have excelled in fields such as sports, science, medicine , arts or letters.
The center's management is also planning to hold an exhibition and a commemorative book of the 50th anniversary this year.
At the IES San Juan, more than 650 students (402 of ESO and 264 of Bachillerato) study and 68 teachers work.
Since 2001/2002, the center has been involved in bilingual pilot programs.
The initial program was French and then transformed into a bilingual English-French bilingual program.
At present there are two groups of German, in first and second of ESO.
In addition, he teaches the Bachelor of Research and is attached to other programs such as 'Cantemus' and 'Juvenile Correspondents', among others.
Also, the IES San Juan de la Cruz is one of the few centers in the region that imparts the 'BachiBac', a program that reinforces the knowledge of French language and culture of students.
The educational offer is completed with compulsory Secondary Education and the baccalaureate of Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Arts, Research and Bachillerato at Distance.
The Improvement of Learning and Performance Program (PMAR) was also implemented.
