Caravaca joins 'World Tourism Day' with round table, piano recital and open day for museums (25/09/2017)

The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz adds this Wednesday, September 27, to the commemoration of the 'World Tourism Day', convened this year with the motto "Sustainable tourism as a development tool."

The Council of Tourism of the Consistory of Carvajal, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, has scheduled an open day in the network of museums in Caravaca de la Cruz and a round table and piano recital, which will take place in the church of San José, of the old convent of the Carmelite Mothers.

The round table, scheduled for 20.00 hours, is titled 'Heritage, tourism and local development' and it is planned the participation of the professors of the Department of Geography of the University of Murcia and editors of the magazine 'Cuadernos de Turismo ', Ramón García Martín and Cayetano Espejo Marín.

Also participating are Javier Martí Talavera and Daniel Moreno Muñoz, both graduates in Geography and co-authors of the study 'The Wine Horses (Caravaca de la Cruz, Murcia, Spain): A unique heritage as a Tourist Attraction'.

At the end of the round table, at 21.15 pm, Arturo Abellán, a student at the Music Conservatory 'Leandro Martínez Romero', will begin his piano recital, which at the young age has received more than a dozen prestigious awards both nationally and internationally.

The World Tourism Organization and the United Nations General Assembly convene World Tourism Day as an opportunity to sensitize decision-makers in the public and private sectors and the general public about the contribution of sustainable tourism to the development, while mobilizing all stakeholders to work together to make tourism a catalyst for change.

This year's celebration revolves around sustainable tourism and the tourism sector can contribute to the three pillars of sustainability (economic, social and environmental) and to each of the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS).

In addition to leading growth, tourism promotes a better quality of life, the strengthening of environmental protection, the defense of diverse cultural heritage and the promotion of peace in the world.
