La Junquera site hosts a day of ringing the Primilla Kestrel (23/06/2017)

The Council of Environment of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, in collaboration with the Association for the Defense of Nature 'Caralluma', held this Sunday, June 25, the second day of ringing the 'Primilla Kestrel', in La Junquera.

The conference will continue until next July 2.

The meeting point set to participate in this day is the service station located in Venta de Cavila, at 9.00.

Those who wish can also be incorporated throughout the morning, going directly to the said spot caravaqueño.

In addition to seeing the conservation work and recovery of the Primilla Kestrel carried out by the association 'Caralluma', the assistants to this activity will also be able to know the regenerative agriculture project and the future camp of restoration of ecosystems that the owners of the estate of La Junquera Are developing together with the AlVelAl Association: social, economic and natural regeneration of a territory.

The Primilla Kestrel winter in the south of the Sahara and reaches this area of the peninsula at the end of February.

Its presence is beneficial to agriculture, as it feeds on insects - like lobsters - and small rodents, as well as being a good bioindicator of climate change.

The Primilla Kestrel may be considered the smallest of the hawks.

Until the middle of the last century, it was a frequent inhabitant of towers, cortijos, mansions, palaces and castles located in regions dedicated to the agriculture and the extensive cattle ranch, where they could find abundant invertebrates with which to feed.

The transformations suffered in the Spanish countryside in the last decades reduced their habitat and caused a sharp decline.

Quite similar to that of the kestrel, the primilla is distinguished by its smaller size and by a series of morphological characteristics that sometimes - as with the color of the nails - are not easily identifiable at first sight.
