Twelve groupings of Valencia, Murcia, Catalonia and Madrid participate in the National Meeting of Giants of Caravaca (19/04/2017)

Groups from the Valencian Community, Murcia, Catalonia and Madrid participate this Saturday, April 22, at the IV Meeting - National Pilgrimage of Giants and Cabezudos, held in Caravaca de la Cruz, coinciding with the Jubilee Year 2017.

In total, there are twelve municipalities that will be present at this event promoted by the Association of Friends of the Giants of Caravaca de la Cruz, with the collaboration of the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz, the Commission of Festivities of the Cofradía de la Vera Cruz And different sponsoring brands.

Among the participating groups are some of the most representative of the Spanish gigantery tradition, such as the Colla de Nanos and Giants of Alicante, whose origin dates back to the fifteenth century, incorporated from the twentieth century to the festival of the Bonfires of San Juan, Or those of Monovar, documented since the year 1940.

The association 'El Tío Pajero' of Abarán, with its band of bagpipes 'Mazicandú', the Comparsa of Barberá del Vallés, the Giants and Cabezudos of Cehegín, the Grup de Danses del Pinós, the association 'La Espartosa' 'Of Estación de Blanca, as well as the giants of Novelda, Ontinyent, Torrejón de Ardoz and the Association' La Chirimía de Murcia '.

As hosts of this meeting-pilgrimage, the centennial giants and heads of Caravaca de la Cruz, formed by eleven giants and several cabezudos, sheltered under the mantle of their progenitors 'El Nano' and 'La Nana'.

Caravaca once again hosts a national gathering of giants, following those held in 2000 and in the 2003 and 2010 jubilee years.

Program of events

The IV National Gathering and Pilgrimage Meeting of Caravaca de la Cruz will begin at 10 am on Saturday, with the reception of associations and the 'plant' in Plaza Paco Pim.

At 12.00 hours, a first parade will take place on the Gran Vía, at which time the typical dances and games of giants will take place.

After the reception to all the participants in the Plenary Hall of the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz, at 14.00 hours, will take place a new parade through Gran Vía, Plaza del Arco to Halls Castillo de la Cruz.

The Association of Friends of the Giants of Caravaca de la Cruz will continue through Plaza del Arco, Gregorio Javier Street, Vidrieras, Canalejas, Poeta Ibáñez to Placeta del Santo.
