The Council of Culture of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz has edited the book 'The Festivities of the Cross of Caravaca in the old press', composed of more than 350 reviews and a selection of historical images, some of them unpublished.

The money obtained with the sale of specimens will go to the Spanish Foundation to fight against Leukemia (FELL), based in the town.

The publication is a review of news and newspaper reports on patron saint festivities, published between 1839 and 1959. The compilation has been made by the head of the Municipal Archives, Francisco Fernández García, which analyzes the repercussion that the festivities around the Most Holy And Vera Cruz reached in newspapers such as 'El Imparcial', where the Caravaqueño Emilio Sáez published his chronicles, or in publications such as 'El Argos', 'La Luz de la Comarca' or 'Nueva Era'.

"It is a good thing that publications such as this one can see the light and bring the information of local, regional and national newspapers to the public from May 1839 until their renewal in 1959, since they are practically the only documentary sources on the development And evolution of the fiestas, "as highlighted by the mayor, Jose Moreno.

For its part, Francisco Fernández, has advanced that "in the face of the objective coldness of the festival programs, the chronicles offer much more detailed and precise information, since they also allow us to know the results and the singularities of each one of them. This also influences the personality of each journalist and the ideology and interests of the medium that publishes it, so sometimes we have to make an effort and distinguish what was personal from each of them.

This publication is a sample of how the Caravaqueña society has been transforming and evolving with the passage of time, knowing how to maintain the essence and meaning of the most ancient rites.

The presentation of the book "The Festivities of the Cross of Caravaca in the old press" will take place next Thursday, December 15, at 9:00 pm, in the auditorium of the House of Culture 'Emilio Sáez', charge By Juan Fernández Robles.
