The City Council ask the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS) to extend the opening hours of the Home for the Elderly in Caravaca de la Cruz seven days a week during the twelve months of the year is the target of a motion recorded the Municipal People's Party to be debated and voted on at the next regular plenary.
Home for the Elderly, located on Avenida Juan Carlos I, is managed by the IMAS, an autonomous agency attached to the Department of Family and Equal Opportunities Thomas Violante who currently heads the center.
"The center offers numerous services to pensioners and people over 65 years, being a reference for them in their social relationships and their plans leisure time. There are many users who daily come to the center and especially on weekends to meet their cultural, social, technological, sports and even emotional concerns, "said Popular Party spokesman Jose Francisco Garcia.
Currently the Home for the Elderly in Caravaca closes one day a week during the months of September to June, and two days a week (Saturday and Sunday) in the months of July and August, "precisely when activity decreases in the locality and more necessary to offer an alternative to older people who may be alone and whose modest pensions does not allow them to leave out of Caravaca holiday, "added Garcia.
On different occasions, from the board and the chair of the Home for the Elderly it has highlighted the need for the center to remain open seven days a week to provide comprehensive and quality service to its users.
"The group of elderly people is protected by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, by the Spanish Constitution and numerous laws, but sometimes it is vulnerable and defenseless, and we must fight for their rights" has completed the popular spokesman.
