The 'Way of the Cross of Caravaca-Levante' unites ten municipalities to boost tourism in the region (16/02/2016)

'El Camino de Levante' is the first of the routes covered by the 'Way of the Cross of Caravaca' to be conditioned marked with the new logo for the Holy Year 2017.

The mayor, José Moreno, accompanied by the mayor of Tourism, Gloria Gómez, participated today at the launch of this initiative, along with the Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment, Juan Hernandez, and the 10 mayors and councilors in the region where passes this way.

"The municipalities that today we gather as the regional government we are firmly on the 'Way of the Cross of Caravaca' because we think it is a development opportunity for all and an opportunity to boost tourism in the Region of Murcia, giving a step that goes far beyond the traditional sun and beach ", in the words of the mayor.

The 'Way of the Cross of Caravaca-Levante' begins in Orihuela and runs through the towns of Beniel, Murcia, Molina de Segura, Alguazas, Campos del Rio, Albudeite, Mula, Bullas, Cehegín and Caravaca de la Cruz.

It is a journey of 114 kilometers, which takes advantage itineraries and conditioners, such as long distance footpath (GR), which is partly bike path, which runs along Butte Segura river (40 km) and Northwest Greenway (74 km).

During the meeting with municipal councilors, the Minister of Tourism announced its intention to soon sign an agreement with the municipalities to value the way, as a "strategic product called to structure the regional tourism."

This agreement it commit lines of collaboration between the regional administration and local aspects concerning signage, packaging or improvements;

infrastructure and enhancement of the heritage;

protection in urban planning;

tourist information and promotion;

sealing credentials, incorporation of participating establishments and coordination of events.

Similarly, the need to foster the creation of an association of friends of the road, which would aim to support municipalities through which passes the way, ensure the same and serve the pilgrims, among others arose.

In addition, progress is being made in the definition of a model of public-private management for the project, which involves a channel for tax incentives achieved with the declaration of 2017 as Caravaca 'Event Exceptional Public Interest'.

In this sense, José Moreno wanted to appeal to businessmen and businesswomen to bet on this project, with the development of initiatives such as hotel and catering activities or active tourism and nature.

Many municipalities and the Regional Government think that 2017 is an opportunity for all municipalities in the region, such a significant advantage is the Holy Year of Caravaca, to boost tourism in the region, with a new side event.

The regional government is firmly committed to this project.

It is an opportunity to add value to all cities that are in this way and also to value their heritage, their history, their services and to complement a different tourism which have traditionally had sun and sand.

Encourage not only cities but also to all businessmen and women that are committed to this path, with initiatives such as hotel and catering activities, active tourism and outdoor activities.
