The lamb lamb and extensive livestock

Extensive grazing livestock has played a fundamental role in the Northwest region and in the rest of the regions that constitute the habitat of the Segureño lamb.

Sheep farming is of great importance at the socio-economic level in these territories, with a census sheep raised with a traditional production system, rooted in the rural environment, integrated in nature and, therefore, respectful of the environment.

The segureña is a native breed characterized by its high rusticity and high production levels, which has allowed maintaining important levels of purity in the difficult environment in which it operates.

It has about a million and a half heads in its natural area of distribution, which includes 144 municipalities in Granada, Almeria, Jaen, Albacete and Murcia.

In the Northwest of Murcia is where most of the production and commercialization of the lamb from the Murcia region is concentrated.

The lamb is recognized with the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
