Conferences, Renaissance music and reading works of Santa Teresa form the program of the IV Teresian Cycle of Caravaca de la Cruz (26/09/2019)

The IV Teresian Cycle of Caravaca de la Cruz, jointly organized by the Department of Culture of the City Council and the community of Carmelitas Descalzos, will be held on October 3, 10, 16 and 24 in the church of San José of the former convent of Las Barefoot Carmelites, on Calle Mayor.

The cycle, as explained by councilman Juan Manuel de León, aims to deepen the knowledge of Teresa de Jesus, saint, writer and reformer of the universally known Order of Carmen, whose relationship with Caravaca comes through the closing convent that founded in 1576. "Following the celebration of the V centenary of the Birth of Santa Teresa, in 2015, and the entry of Caravaca into the Teresian Cities Network, the relationship of the saint with our church began to be more noticeable city ​​and organized activities, which deepen in different aspects of the saint and the culture of the sixteenth century, "said de León.

Professor and barefoot Carmelite Secundino Castro, Professor Emeritus of the Pontifical University of Comillas, will open the cycle with the conference 'Teresa de Jesus, teacher and disciple of the Word', on Thursday, October 3, at 8.30 p.m.

The prior of the Carmelites of Caravaca, Fray Pascual Gil, explained that Castro is one of the best specialists in the life and work of Santa Teresa and also of San Juan de la Cruz.

On Thursday, October 10, also in the church of San José, there will be a reading of fragments of work in prose and also in poetry of Santa Teresa by components of the reading and writing workshop of the Municipal Library and students from high school.
