A total of 176 farmers and farmers of the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz have requested the regional government for aid for the modernization of farms and livestock.

The new 2019-2021 call has a global budget of 10 million euros, according to the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, acting, Miguel Ángel del Amor, during the visit to the caravaqueña farm in La Junquera, along with the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Francisco García, and the councilor of Agriculture and Livestock, José Antonio García.

The eligible investments include irrigation (pipes, ponds, irrigation ditches, localized irrigation, among others), improvement of soils, plantations (start-up, reinjertos, new plantation), livestock constructions (including dunghills and forage silos), rural constructions (greenhouses, warehouses) , cold rooms, dryers, among others), rural roads, machinery and equipment (tractors, seeders, fertilizer spreaders, trailers, among others), and renewable energy facilities for self-consumption.

Regenerative Agriculture Academy of La Junquera

In La Junquera, the Regenerative Agriculture Academy and the Ecosystem Restoration Camp are located, at the initiative of its owner, Alfonso Chico de Guzmán.

In this place, close to the hamlet of El Moralejo, volunteers and European students working on the farm are received to learn first-hand about the different types of ecological crops and the scientific way to develop them.

They focus on the analysis of different aspects such as grazing, cover crops, crop mixtures and composting.

"La Junquera is a pioneering business project that we are fortunate to have in our town, where we work with the rotation of organic crops to get new products that adapt to the climate, without losing soil fertility." It is a model way of reconversion of family farms, that open new and hopeful possibilities of future to our agriculture and cattle ranch ".

La Junquera 'is committed to regenerative cultivation, to achieve soil improvement by reducing nitrogen fertilization, thus increasing biodiversity and erosion control.

The main objective is to make agri-livestock farms profitable, reducing their expenses and taking advantage of the symbiotic relationships between animals, plants and soil.

In its more than 1,100 hectares, the farm houses different crops: Chamorro wheat, demanded to make organic flours, rye for the preparation of bread, brewing barley and with errors, cereal that has the peculiarity of fixing atmospheric nitrogen to the soil.

Also almond trees, pistachios and aromatic plants.

In this sense, the Agriculture Minister stressed that "this young farmer has managed to attract foreign students to an unpopulated rural area in Caravaca de la Cruz interested in doing practices and research on regenerative agriculture, and has created an academy to study various aspects such as the grazing, the vegetal covers, the mixtures of culture and the composting, among others ".
