The City of Caravaca joins 'Earth Hour' to call attention to climate change (27/03/2019)

The City of Caravaca de la Cruz has joined the global campaign 'Earth Hour' and next Saturday, March 30, from 20.30 to 21.30 hours, turn off the lights of its most emblematic buildings to draw attention to the problem of climate change.

The façade of the Town Hall, the Castle wall and the Templete are the places selected this year to remain off in response to the call of the NGO WWF (World Wildlife Fund), also supported by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.

From the Department of Environment encourage neighbors to join from their homes to this global initiative, which will take place in 7,000 cities around the world, to demonstrate the commitment to nature conservation, subjected to an unprecedented degradation process .

'Earth Hour' was born more than a decade ago in Sydney, in 2007, as a simple gesture that consists of turning off the lights of homes, businesses, buildings and emblematic monuments for one hour.

An action that later would articulate a growing worldwide movement for the Planet.

The campaign calls for the union of citizens, municipalities and political groups, companies and organizations to achieve a world more respectful of nature and promotes direct actions to develop conservation initiatives beyond climate action.

On Saturday, millions of people will join once again to demonstrate their commitment to nature conservation, subjected to an unprecedented process of degradation.

The loss of biodiversity and climate change are the most serious environmental problems we face and, this year, 'Earth Hour' wants to inspire the world to act and help preserve nature.

Some 230 city councils throughout Spain have already committed to extinguish their most emblematic monuments as a symbol of the fight against climate change.

Thus, buildings as popular as the Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid, the Tower of Hercules in Coruña, the Guggemheim Museum in Bilbao or the Cathedral of Burgos, along with hundreds of squares and facades of other municipalities, will also turn off their lights on March 30 by nature.
