Low temperatures can cause incidents mainly in isolated or semi-detached houses if the water meters or the particular exterior pipes are not sufficiently insulated, especially if their façade faces north.
For this reason it is recommended:
-If there are particular water pipes in the open or susceptible to freezing problems, they should be protected with some insulating material.
It can serve, for example, fiberglass.
-In addition, check that the box or cabinet where the meter is in good condition to avoid risks.
In case of freezing, it is not advisable to force the stopcocks.
If it is detected that the pipe shows signs of freezing, hot air should be applied to the area and protected with insulation.
-If you are not going to make use of the water for a prolonged period, another usual measure of prevention of breakage is to close the stopcock and empty the particular pipes so that there is no water inside.
- Once the frosts have passed, Aqualia recommends that the interior installations be checked to ensure there are no leaks.
If none is visibly detected, it is good to check that the meter does not register water consumption, making sure that all the taps are closed and that the appliances are not working.
-If a water leak is observed, it is advisable to make repairs as soon as possible to avoid material damage and unnecessary consumption.
