The Robles Chillida Foundation has presented its 'Research Awards', with which it supports various projects within the field of Health Sciences, the result of the collaboration agreement it has with the University of Murcia.

The Caravaqueña foundation annually allocates 30,000 euros to these awards and, in addition, awards each academic year grants to students in Primary, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training.

The act, preceded by a reception in the Town Hall of the Consistory, has had the participation of the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Moreno, who congratulated the winners and thanked the Robles Chillida Foundation for its firm commitment to research as an element of development and social transformation.

"These awards represent a milestone in the history of Caravaca because, unfortunately, on rare occasions, knowledge is rewarded and the efforts of researchers to progress and improve the lives of all are recognized," he said.

The awards ceremony has also had the presence of the vice-rector of Health Sciences of the University of Murcia, Luis Vicente García-Marcos;

the vice-rector of Research and Transfer of the University of Murcia, Francisco Esquembre, and the president of the Robles Chillida Foundation, Amador López, together with other members of the board.

The research support, worth 10,000 euros, has been for the project 'Regulation of IL1RL1 gene expression and ST2 isoforms as a new therapeutic route in the prevention of adverse cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction', led by Professor Dr. Domingo Andrés Pascual Figal.

The second research aid, endowed with the same amount, has fallen to the project led by professor Rocío González-Conejero Hilla, with the title 'Identification of variants in microrna genes as new risk factors for acute myocardial infarction in under 45 years through mass sequencing (NGS) '.

The 'Aid to international mobility', consisting of 4,000 euros, has been for Dr. Marta Martínez Morga for the project 'Characterization of synaptic alterations in a cellular model of autism', which will continue in the United States.

The first award of doctoral theses, endowed with 3,000 euros, has fallen to Dr. Johnny Di Pierdomenico, author of the thesis' Study of glial response and intrinsically photosensitive glanglion cells in two animal models of hereditary degeneration of photoreceptors and after intravenous injections ".

The second prize of doctoral theses, worth 2,000 euros, has as beneficiary Dr. Isabel Barranco Cascales, author of the thesis 'Antioxidants of seminal plasma: potential biomarkers of fertility in boars included in artificial insemination program'.

The Robles Chillida Foundation is a non-profit organization that has among its aims the help of studies and research in the Region of Murcia.

It owes its name to caravaqueño pharmacist Elías Manuel Robles Chillida, who donated his patrimony to support initiatives that promote, among other issues, the health and well-being of citizens.

The board that governs the foundation is made up of different positions related to research and teaching.
