High participation in the 2018 edition of the re-launched 'Albacara Awards', with more than 180 works presented (03/12/2018)

The awards ceremony will take place on December 14, at 20.30, in the Hall of Plenary Session of the Consistory

Up to the House of Culture 'Emilio Sáez' have reached more than 180 works from numerous places in the Spanish geography and countries such as Portugal, Israel and the United States to participate in the call for the 'Albacara Awards', organized by the Department of the Culture of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, with the collaboration of the Grupo Desires Reina, the Editorial Gollarín and the Discalced Carmelites.

"The successful participation that we have obtained in this edition is due to the relaunching and promotion of the literary contest, which has achieved a greater reach among writers of all ages, thanks to the incorporation of more prizes and participation categories, at the same time that the link with the figure of San Juan de la Cruz, which gave rise to the contest more than 40 years ago, has been reinforced, "as pointed out by the Councilor for Culture, Óscar Martínez.

The deadline for submission of papers ended on November 14 and the decision of the jury will be issued shortly in the face of the awards ceremony, which will take place on December 14, coinciding with the feast of San Juan de la Cruz, a at 20.30, in the Plenary Hall of the Caravaqueño Consistory, during an event that will be conducted by Caravaqueña María Reyes Aznar, responsible for the dissemination and coordination of the event.

In this edition of 2018, the 'Albacara Awards', in addition to the traditional call for Children and Youth that is now identified with the denomination' School of Mandarins Prize 'in homage to the work of the writer from Caravaca Miguel Espinosa, adds the call for the' Prize Nacional de narrativa Ciudad de la Cruz ', on local themes, for over 18s, in recognition of the writer from Caravaca Gregorio Javier.

Also within the contest, has also been called the 'San Juan de la Cruz National Mystic Poetry Prize', aimed at people over 18 years, to signify the figure of the famous mystic patron of Spanish poets and their link to the city of Caravaca from the cross.

The jury is composed of fifteen people linked to the world of literature and culture.

In the line of 'National Prize of Mystical Poetry San Juan de la Cruz' presides the writer Luis Bagué, along with the editor of Gollarín Francisco Marín, the writer Montserrat Abumalham, the prior of Córdoba of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, Fernando Donaire, and the philologist Juan Sánchez-Carrasco.

In the line 'National Prize of Narrative City of the Cross' presides the writer Luis Leante, next to the representative of the Group Postres Queen Maria del Carmen Giménez, the historian Diego Marín, the professor Jesus Lopez and the journalist Alicia Ruiz.

In the line 'Regional Prize School of Mandarines' presides the municipal librarian Juan Antonio Martinez Piqueras, next to the councilman of Culture, Óscar Martínez, the philologists María del Carmen Roca and José Ródenas and the prior of the Order of the Carmelitas Descalzos de Caravaca de the Cross, Pascual Gil Almela.

The 'Albacara Prize' was created in the city of Caravaca de la Cruz in 1972 with the aim of promoting literary creation among adolescents and young people.

Since then, there have been many people who, having debuted in this contest, are credited today as recognized writers and poets in the regional, national and even international.

The initiative arose within the Club Edith Stein of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers and in 1980 the organization passed to the Caravaca de la Cruz Town Hall, continuing until the present time.
