The Caravaca City Council conducts a study to improve the energy performance of public outdoor students (27/11/2018)

The measures proposed in the study represent a total investment of close to four million euros

The City of Caravaca de la Cruz has conducted a study of energy efficiency and savings of outdoor lighting in the municipality, which aims to reduce energy costs by about 80%, which leads to a significant reduction in greenhouse gases and an economic saving

The Councilor for Public Services, Jesús Sánchez, and the representatives of the company responsible for developing the study, Francisco Miguel Giménez and Ginés Giménez -responsible of the departments of Engineering and New Technologies of Enewtec- have detailed the objectives, methodology and conclusions of the audit carried out during these last months.

"The study has allowed us to obtain a photograph of the real state of the facilities, as well as the energy consumption we carry out, proposing solutions and alternatives such as the replacement of the current street lights with LED technology lamps, as well as remote control of the scorecards, "as pointed out by the mayor Jesús Sánchez.

From the conclusions of the study, it can be deduced that an annual economic saving of 465,000 euros and an energy saving could be achieved with respect to the original installation of 2,988,102 KWH.

The total investment that the proposed measures would entail as a result of the authorship amounts to 3,941,649 euros.

The inventory shows that the municipality of Caravaca has 115 units of control panels and a total of 7,809 luminaires, which remain in operation 4,313 hours.

The billing cost is 588,952 euros per year.

After collecting the information, the diagnosis concludes that there is an excessive light level according to the levels set by the Energy Efficiency Regulation and that there is a high number of old luminaries with low performance and high level of light pollution.

Also, the diagnosis indicates that there are 7% of mercury lamps still installed and 792 points of light (10%) are off.

Among the proposals reflected in this study is the replacement of lamps and luminaires;

the implantation of systems that allow to regulate the luminous level;

the adjustment of on and off hours to 4.150, the implementation of a telemanagement system and optimizing the electricity tariff for each of the supply contracts (adapting the tariff, power and typology).

Among the benefits that will be achieved with the implementation of the results reflected in the study highlights the modernization and improvement of outdoor lighting installations (with a saving of 79% in energy costs), the increase in lighting quality, reduction of CO2 emissions and other greenhouse gases, the decrease in electricity consumption (78%), as well as the reduction of the maintenance needs of the facilities.
