The Senate requests to promote the candidacy of the Wine Horse Festival as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (08/11/2018)

Perez Ruiz says that "it is a unique celebration in the world that amazes and impresses everyone who knows it"

The Committee on Culture and Sports of the Senate has approved a motion of the Popular Parliamentary Group in which it asks the Government to promote, before the appropriate instances, the candidacy of the Caravaca de la Cruz Wine Horse Festival as Cultural Heritage of the Humanity.

The senator of the PP for Murcia, Pedro José Pérez Ruiz, who has defended this initiative, has indicated that this petition has a long history, since 2010, where the Association of Caravaca Wine Horses, with its 60 supporters' clubs, the City Hall of Caravaca, the Regional Assembly of Murcia and the Government of the Region of Murcia have worked hard for the candidacy of this festival as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Murcian senator has assured that the Wine Horse Festival is own and exclusive of Caravaca de la Cruz and "it is a unique celebration in the world that amazes and impresses everyone who knows it".

In his speech, the popular senator explained that the big day of the Wine Horse Festival of Caravaca de la Cruz, on May 2, begins with the ritual of "dress the horse."

After several parades and parades, on the way up to the castle, the Caballos del Vino race takes place.

"It is a timed test that the horse performs accompanied by four guys who run beside him, holding him, two in front and two behind, and that are eliminated if one is released before crossing the goal," he said.

Pedro José Pérez Ruiz said that "it is an unusual spectacle, full of passion, emotion and strength that attracts numerous national and international media to live a unique event in the world".

In this sense, the Murcian senator has shown that it is "a centuries-old tradition handed down from generation to generation." The Caravaca de la Cruz Wine Horse Festival is one of the most brilliant shows, aesthetically and emotionally, of how many make up the rich Spanish festive-cultural repertoire ".

Finally, the PP senator thanked the rest of the parliamentary groups for their support of this initiative and congratulated the people of Caravaca and all the supporters clubs for the future declaration, which today in the Senate, has taken another important step.

He also had words of thanks to the mayor, between 1999 and 2015, Domingo Aranda Muñoz;

the current mayor, José Moreno Medina, and the PP spokesman, José Francisco García Fernández, who have promoted and kept this candidacy alive.
