The Local Police of Caravaca de la Cruz has participated in the road safety campaign promoted by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) for the prevention of traffic accidents caused by distractions at the wheel.
The agents carried out a total of 139 vehicle checks in different parts of the municipality, punishing seven drivers for using mobile phones, which is 5% of the total.
According to the data provided by the DGT, 38% of the fatal accidents registered in Murcia in 2017 were caused by driving distractions.
Using the mobile phone while driving multiplies the risk of an accident by 23 and one of every three drivers admits doing it occasionally.
During this campaign, the Local Police has checked the behaviors that can distract while driving, such as using the mobile phone, connecting headphones, operating the GPS navigator or changing the music of the player, among other circumstances.
