The old church of Compañía de Jesús de Caravaca de la Cruz hosts from September 27 to January 8 the exhibition 'Mystics.
Santa Teresa and San Juan de la Cruz, light in the Golden Age ', with works of great masters of Spanish and universal painting, among which are' El Greco ', Murillo, Alonso Cano, Ribera, Chillida or TÃ pies.
The exhibition, presented at the Episcopal Palace of Murcia, poses a reflection on mysticism in the history of culture through two universal figures who created foundations in Caravaca de la Cruz;
Santa Teresa de Jesus and San Juan De la Cruz.
It is an ambitious project, which also includes a book, with contributions from representatives from different fields such as mysticism, literature, philosophy, art, architecture, cinema or politics.
One of the objectives of this cultural project is to set the story of the presence of Santa Teresa and San Juan in Caravaca de la Cruz, through the link with art.
The exhibition will be composed of works from private collections and several museums, including the Prado Museum, the National Sculpture Museum or the Museum of Fine Arts of Murcia (MUBAM).
In addition, paintings donated by the Diocese of Cartagena, the Brotherhood of the True Cross and a large number of Carmelite convents will also be integrated.
Among the authors are 'El Greco', Jan Metsys, Luis de Morales 'El Divino'.
Juan de Juanes, Gregorio Fernández, Alonso Cano, Pedro de Mena, Ribera, Salzillo, Risueño, Vázquez Díaz, Saura, Chillida, TÃ pies, Lució Muñoz and many others.
The project is curated by Nacho Ruiz, who has already directed the commemorative exhibition of the 2017 Jubilee Year 'Signum.
The Glory of the Renaissance in the Kingdom of Murcia ', and has the Camino de la Cruz Foundation as the main sponsor, with the support of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, the Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Community and the Diocese of Cartagena.
The Fundación Banco Santander, Iberdrola, Fundación Desguaces París and Automoción del Noroeste (Aunorsa) have also endorsed this exhibition.
