Caravaca, the 'Government of culture' that closes museums (13/07/2018)

A few days ago we knew through an article by Encarna Reinón that the government team of Pepe Moreno has decided the imminent closure of the museum where the collection of miniatures of his father, Ángel Reinón, is exhibited.

A decision that unilaterally breaks the agreement with the family and from which the political groups in the opposition have not been informed by official channels.

It is important to remember that the Reinón family donated the collection of miniatures to the people of Caravaca free of charge, consisting of over 400 pieces that recreate traditional trades with great detail, many of which have disappeared.

Ángel Reinón devoted almost two decades of his life to elaborate these works of small format but great in their precision and meaning.

The Reinón family also acquired and paid through a mortgage the Bajo de Calle Puentecilla where the museum is located, a space that was prepared in 2003 through European funds for rural development.

The generosity of the Reinón family made it possible for Angel's work to be enjoyed by all, also adding a new tourist attraction in the heart of Caravaca.

And bequeathing for all a work of great cultural and ethnographic value, which to date has served for present and future generations to know our roots, customs and professions of a medium, such as rural, so our but so reviled in these times .

The City Council, which, as I have already mentioned, did not entail the economic cost of buying and equipping this museum, committed itself to keep this work open to the public, but it seems that, after the effort and goodwill of the Reinón family , the Department of Tourism has decided to breach its part of the agreement.

Nobody, not even the councilors that are part of the Corporation, have been able to suggest options and look for feasibility outlets for this space.

If it is due to a staff problem, one could, for example, have agreed to a few days of opening by volunteering with the associations of the elderly, which are several and very numerous in our town, whose members would surely be happy to continue contributing to society once his working life has ended.

And who better than them to explain how they lived and worked in the countryside?

Not everything is in the economic, it is also important the illusion, the desire, the push, the consult, the move.

But the simplest thing is to throw the blind and put the collection of miniatures in boxes.

We are facing a new example of the policy of regression and minimal effort of the PSOE of Mr. Pepe Moreno at the head of our City Council.

At this point, with the legislature in its final phase, it is already a fact that transparency and citizen participation were no more than an electoral deception, because, even though it is a minority government, opacity and unilateral decisions prevail.

The closure of the Ángel Reinón Museum is a new example of this opacity, since it has only been officially announced to the family.

It is surprising the total absence of tourism initiatives of our City Council, letting go the many opportunities and development potential of Caravaca.

Even with a Jubilee Year in between, where the entire promotion came thanks to the determined commitment of the Government of the Region of Murcia.

Immobilism has been installed in the life of our city, inoculated by an indolent government team, which only devotes its efforts to search under the carpets and shield their incompetence in the past.

And it is an absolute paradox that they repeat again and again in a machacona way in the social networks that are the government of culture, when for example museums such as the Reinón are closed, reference rooms such as the Compañía de Jesús have been closed for weeks with exhibitions announced and not open to the public or we do not know about projects or ideas to enhance our artistic and architectural heritage.

Culture say?

Fortunately, the Foundation of Vera Cruz came to endow the 2017 Jubilee with content through fiscal incentives from the Government of Spain and requested by the Popular Party in the opposition, because the councilor of Tourism is neither awake nor expected.
