To publicize the recent Law of Protection and Defense of Companion Animals to society has been the objective of the event organized by the Popular Party of Caravaca, which has had the assistance of the regional deputy Mónica Meroño, defender and promoter of the law in the Regional Assembly.

Meroño stressed that the law, passed last November, "was born of social demand, being very participatory and consensual, because we sat down to talk with all those social agents that had a relationship with this world and we have shaped their proposals", and has ensured that "it places the Region of Murcia at the forefront at the national level in terms of animal protection, something that was very necessary, since the previous law dated back to 1990 and unfortunate situations of mistreatment and animal abandonment were taking place. the ones that had to be answered ".

The popular deputy, accompanied by the deputy of the PP Víctor Martínez-Carrasco and the Caravaca PP components José Francisco García and Ana Belén Martínez, explained that this law pursues mistreatment, abandonment and establishes zero sacrifice, "encouraging especially education, which is what the law works most, to educate people so that these unfortunate cases do not occur ".

The law regulates in detail many cases that did not appear in the previous one, multiplies sanctions and is an effective tool in the protection of animals.

Faced with the regional law has been highlighted the inaction of the City of Caravaca on animal protection issues.

Councilwoman Ana Bethlehem Martinez recalled that "we know nothing of the update of the ordinance of animal ownership in which we all collaborated more than a year and a half ago and the competent Council does not start with it"

"It also happens with the Bureau of Animal Welfare that all the municipal groups jointly present and that should have been launched when last December the Association Econciencia declared a state of emergency."

Ana Belén Martínez added that the Municipal Socialist Group did not want to approve an amendment that the Popular Group submitted to the 2018 Budget to make an agreement with the Econciencia Association, of 3,000 euros, "a very small amount for the great work they do but that it would help a lot. "

The popular councilor stressed that "the hostel we all know we need in the region, we know nothing, no city has reflected in its budgets a game for this purpose and this reflects that there is no will to do it."

Finally, Ana Belén Martínez recalled that "more than 2 years ago we presented at the City Council the creation of a Comprehensive Animal Protection Plan and it was not approved because the PSOE did not want, claiming that it had a better proposal.

We are still waiting for it today. "
