Renewal of the transfer of the headquarters of the Carrilero Museum to the Caravaca de la Cruz City Council (23/05/2018)

The Governing Council has authorized the renewal of the free transfer of the current headquarters of the José Carrilero Museum to the City of Caravaca de la Cruz to continue its museum activity for a period of ten years, renewable for another five.

The building was the artist's birthplace in 1928 and since 2010 has housed the monographic museum dedicated to this sculptor and caravaqueño painter, where 90 original works are exhibited, including sculptures, paintings and sketches, as well as photographs and texts about his professional career.

It is a Renaissance palace that belonged to the Musso Muñoz de Otálora family, which currently belongs to the Community and at the beginning of the 20th century it was used as a barracks for the Civil Guard, where the sculptor was born, the son of an agent of this body .

With this action, the Community intends to continue the activities of the museum, which in addition to the permanent collection offers temporary and itinerant exhibitions and days through the City Council and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa María de la Arrixaca.

José Carrilero is considered one of the great sculptors of the Region, who was part of the group 'Six Sculptors'.

In 2003 he joined the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa María de la Arrixaca and in 2009 he was recognized with the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia.
